Pleasure Chest - A diverse group of musicians serving the blues, rather that trying to manipulate the music for their benefit.  Band members have years of experience in all genres. Pleasure Chest’s focus is the blues; playing music they love for the shear joy it brings them.

This Central Illinois band is best known for performing post-war blues through 1965.  Musical selections include the bands interpretations of the greats like Robert Johnson, Willie Dixon, and Muddy Waters

“Blues - The Music that changed the world”  2009 Black History Month at the Illinois State Museum.  Pleasure Chest, led by Shane Denney, presented a program on the history of the blues full of some of the best music I've ever heard.  The band was made up of Shane Denney on drums and vocals;  Keith Altevogt on guitar and vocals;  Steve Suter on bass and f Robert Sampson.  Bluesologist Shane Denney presented the program that traced the development of blues beginning in Africa and ending in 1965.  The auditorium provided for the event was great - and the theater was full.  The program ended with a well-deserved standing ovation for a job well done.  I want to personally thank all involved for a fun-filled afternoon of our favorite music.  Hey - they even played my all time favorite blues song - "It Hurts Me Too"  (really - it does) by the great Elmore James.  What a treat!!

August 23, 2008 winner of the ICBC Blues Challenge - 10 bands competed, at the 2008 ICBC Blues Challenge in Springfield, for the right to represent the Illinois Central Blues club in February at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, TN.  The world's largest gathering of Blues acts represents an international search by The Blues Foundation and its Affiliated Organizations for the Blues Band ready to take their act to the international stage. In 2008, 100 bands and 60 solo/duo acts competed for that honor, filling the clubs up and down Beale Street for the semi-finals on Thursday and Friday and the finals at the Orpheum Theater on Saturday.

 ICBC Review:
Blues fans had a real treat December 11, 2006 when
Pleasure Chest", first performed at Blue Monday.  This band high-energy band is made up of consummate musicians. You won’t want to miss them!!  The music was so much fun - and so good - and the personalities were great, too. The rapport with the crowd was super. Their music will entertain and delight your senses. These boys are performers in every sense of the word.
